16: Legion, Human, Christ

In the name of Truth, I solemnly declare that the Being is the only real existence, and before the ineffable and terribly divine transparency of the Being that which we call I, Ego, Myself is just outer darkness, wailing and gnashing of teeth.

– Samael Aun Weor

We have arrived at the fundamental question: To Be or Not To Be.  To Be is to be the Being. The Being is the Being and the purpose of the Being is to be the Being.

To Be is something that is only known to the Being because that is what the Being is. Really it is impossible to further elaborate upon the Being. The abstraction of being into a theory or concept is something false. Concept itself is antithetical to being.

A consciousness that is mechanical and sleeps is not being. A sleeping consciousness lives within its own darkness and ignores its own lack of autonomy. The sleeping consciousness does not act itself but rather it is acted upon by that aspect in which it dreams of.

Being fascinated with an argument, the sleeping consciousness reacts to stimuli with resentment and hateful words, exactly as it has been programmed to. The sleeping consciousness has been programmed to ignore those aspects that refute its logical imperative. A sleeping consciousness has no choice but to become hurt by hateful words and return hate with more hate. The sleeping consciousness is conditioned not only to do such, but to furthermore ignore all degenerative consequences possible and systematically justify those consequences which cannot be ignored.

Creation itself is the sum movement of energy. Every movement of energy is either regenerative or degenerative. In other words, all movement of energy has a direction and this direction either sustains creation by destroying itself or destroys creation by sustaining itself. To have a physical world we need physical laws in order to sustain it. The study of physical laws (physics) has shown that in order for a system to exist it cannot create or destroy energy and that all energy is in constant transformation from one form into another.

12: Seeing the Emptiness

Forms that we see directly are just mere appearance to mind

They exist falsely because the way they appear

Does not correspond to the way they exist,

Just as a human body is conventionally accepted as clean when in reality it is impure.

Buddha taught the impermanence of things

To lead people gradually to a realization of emptiness –

The lack of inherent existence of things.

Then it is incorrect to say that things exist even conventionally.

No, there is no fault, because things exist by conventional valid cognizers.

From the point of view of worldly people, seeing things is seeing reality;

But worldly people never actually see reality

Because the real nature of things is their emptiness.

–  Shantideva, Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life

The ego is a malleable, moldable element.  It exists within our psychological space and grows larger when we do not correctly transform the impressions we are constantly receiving throughout life. When we incorrectly transform love, it becomes lust. When we incorrectly transform criticism, we implant revenge, or hatred within ourselves. If we do not transform the impression of wealth within our interior, greed crystallizes within. Just as the food that enters our bodies must be transformed into its basic elements via digestion, we must digest our impressions to correctly nourish our interior. We must remain in love, not lust; we must correct our errors rather than seek revenge; we must use financial moderation, not hording or excessive spending. This is what the great avatars have told us.

We must transform our impressions to make use of the flux of the energy of life properly. The ego does not take in energy of the cosmos correctly. The ego implants the impressions of reality within our psyche in accordance to its own flawed subjective logic, its own subjective reality that has nothing to do with the objective truth. The energy of the world (the impressions, the experiences we have in the world) should never cause us to react in an inferior fashion such as envy, fear, pride, or hatred. If any of these emotions are found within then we have already failed at transforming an impression. Normally, we are not even lucky enough to catch ourselves. It is normal to never even consider conscious transformation. If we remember ourselves within the moment of reacting upon an untransformed impression, by this act we have already begun to reinterpret and to transform it correctly.

To read how to transform impressions is nothing compared to moments in which it must be done. The aspirant will find that he must struggle terribly to remain in the state of now. When we catch ourselves in the act of a negative emotion we have a wonderful opportunity to ask ourselves why we are frustrated, why we are angry, etc. In this way we can find what brought us to that point. That is Psychological Gymnastics – life, when intensively lived, is our Psychological Gym.

15: The Liberation of Good and Evil

It is through not understanding, not realizing four things, that I, Disciples, as well as you, had to wander so long through this round of rebirths. And what are these four things? They are the Noble Truth of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Origin of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Extinction of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Path that leads to the Extinction of Suffering.

– Buddha Gautama Shakyamuni

My friends, everything in this world in which we live is temporary; ideas are temporary, persons pass away, things pass away. The only thing that is stable and permanent is the Being and the only reason for the Being to be is to be the Being itself.

– Samael Aun Weor

Good and evil are descriptors, that is, they describe the state of an object. Good and evil are not inherent as many erroneously believe, but rather opposing states of existence. Good, in the most practical sense, is something that is in order, in place, in harmony. Evil on the other hand is just the opposite; it is something out of place, out of order, out of harmony. For example, water in and of itself is neither good nor evil. Water that nourishes a biological organism is obviously a good thing. However, when the water of the Mississippi River floods it is certainly not good, for it is producing damage and a lot of suffering. Likewise, fire in your kitchen is good, yet that same fire burning down your kitchen is bad, or in other words, evil. Therefore the fire itself is not good or evil, but forms of fire are.

Any ego we possess in our interior psychological country is either good or evil. Obviously any ego of hatred, arrogance, pride or vanity is bad, but what can be said of good egos? Many people believe that if they destroy the ego that accomplishes work at the office, then one would no longer perform the duties required to obtain money, or a mother may think that if she removes the ego that travels to the grocery store then no one would exist to do the shopping. While these good egos may provide a service for ourselves and others, when they (the “good” egos) are removed it is obvious that the liberated consciousness takes their place. The liberated consciousness, through its own essential nature, always acts in a superior way than the consciousness trapped in the ego. Therefore the consciousness will always be a better worker than the ego of the office will ever be, it will always provide for the family in a genuine, pure and authentically loving manner, far beyond the mechanical, reactionary action of the ego.

There may be an ego of charity within us, and in this way we may give alms to someone on the street, however, if this is unfortunate homeless person is an alcoholic and makes use of his money to support his vice, then what good as been done? That ego believes to have done well, yet in reality it has not. The ego does not know the truth, it only deals with appearances and it has no method of knowing the truth of the moment. Therefore the good ego is not “good” at all.
